Centralis Scholarship Competition Day
What must I do to compete?
Simply follow these three steps:
- Apply for admission to CMU by Oct 19. Submit
your official high school transcripts and ACT or
SAT scores along with your CMU application.
Note that this is a separate application from the
competition application referenced in Step 3.
- To reserve your place at the Oct. 27
competition, register online here by Oct. 19 or by phone at
989-774-3076 or 888-292-5366 (toll free).
- Once you have registered, download a copy of
the competition application at go.cmich.edu/honors. This application must be completed
in its entirety and presented onsite when you
arrive for the Competition Day. Note that this
application is a separate application from the
CMU application referenced in Step 1.
What can I expect at the Competition Day?
- You will have one hour to write an essay and
respond to a prompt. The topic of the essay will
be provided at the competition.
- During this half-day event you and your family
will discover how CMU's programs and services
will help you reach your academic and career
goals. You will have opportunities to receive
information about CMU's academic programs
at special forums as well as explore CMU’s
advanced on-campus facilities.
- Opportunities to meet with Honors students
and Honors staff to learn the benefits of being a
member of the CMU Honors Program.
What factors will be considered in determining which award I might
receive?
- High school GPA and ACT/SAT
- Completed competition application
- The essay you write at the scholarship competition
At the competition day you will compete for one of the following
top merit scholarships:
Centralis Scholarships
Up to 40 available • $87,000 four-year total
This scholarship covers the cost of your tuition up
to 36 credits a year, room and board, and an annual
$500 for general expenses for up to four years.
Scholarship recipients must be in the CMU Honors
Program.
Students not receiving one of the above
scholarships will be eligible to receive other
CMU Top Merit Awards.
Award notification
Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.
Honors Program
You can enrich your studies through
enrollment in the CMU Honors Program. As an
Honors student you will:
- Enroll in unique Honors courses and seminars
- Be eligible to live in the Honors Living/
Learning Communities
- Receive personal faculty mentoring
- Be encouraged to study abroad through
additional funding provided by the Honors
International Study Award ($2,000 for full-
semester study abroad; $1,000 for short-term
study abroad)
- Have access to specialized Honors academic
advising
- Participate in community service
- Complete a senior Honors project in your
field of study
- Have priority registration when registering
for courses.

Competitors receiving the Centralis Scholarship
will be automatically admitted to the Honors
Program.
