At CMU, there are many scholarships available to you. Some recognize good grades. Some are for leadership achievement. Others are specific to your hometown.

You just need to find the right one for you.

Listed below are several scholarships exclusive to CMU students. To find more, talk to a professor in the area you'd like to major in.

Centralis Scholarship Program

  • Open to high school seniors who have excelled academically
  • Must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher and an ACT of 27 or above.
  • Up to 40 scholarships available
  • This scholarship covers the cost of your tuition up to 36 credits a year, room and board, and an annual $500 for general expenses for up to four years. Scholarship recipients must be in the CMU Honors Program.

Outstanding High School Student Scholarship

  • Open to high school seniors who rank first or second in their high school graduating classes
  • No application necessary; qualifying students will automatically receive this award
  • $4,000 per academic year
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains a minimum 3.25 GPA and full-time enrollment

Academic Honors Scholarship

  • Open to high school seniors with both a minimum 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of at least 20
  • No application necessary; qualifying students will automatically receive this award
  • $2,500 per academic year
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains a minimum 3.25 GPA and full-time enrollment

CMU Leader Advancement Scholarship Program

  • Awarded to 40 outstanding high school seniors who have distinguished themselves through a record of leadership in their schools and communities
  • Selected by committee based on application and portfolio
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • $2,000 per academic year
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains a minimum 2.75 GPA and full-time enrollment
  • Deadline to apply is January, 31st 2013

Lloyd M. Cofer Scholarships

  • Awarded to up to 10 incoming graduates of a Detroit public high school
  • $4,125 per academic year
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains full-time enrollment and a satisfactory academic record
  • Deadline to apply is January 15th

CMU Multicultural Advancement Scholarships

  • Awarded to up to 60 high school graduates who demonstrate an interest in the advancement of minorities in American society
  • $4,125 per academic year
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains full-time enrollment and a satisfactory academic record
  • Deadline to apply is January 15th

CMU Multicultural Advancement Award of Distinction

  • Awarded to up to 10 high school graduates who demonstrate an interest in the advancement of minorities in American society
  • $10,500 per academic year to be used toward the cost of tuition, fees, room and board, books, and supplies
  • Renewable for three additional consecutive years if student maintains a minimum 3.25 GPA and full-time enrollment
  • Award winners must reside in the MAC Residential College
  • Deadline to apply is January 15th

CMU President's Award

  • Open to non-Michigan resident high school seniors with a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Open to non-Michigan resident community college graduates with 30 or more transfer hours and a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Equal to the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition for the academic year
  • Renewable for new freshmen for three additional consecutive years if student maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA, non-Michigan residency and full-time enrollment

Alumni Gold Scholarship

  • The Alumni Gold Scholarship is a competitive one time only scholarship for children and grandchildren of CMU graduates. The scholarship is awarded annually to up to three recipients ranging in value of $500-$750 per award. "Generations of families have passed on the CMU tradition to their children and grandchildren and we want to help celebrate this special relationship" says Marcie Otteman, Director of Alumni Relations. Recipients of the scholarship must be an incoming freshman or transfer student. The Alumni Assosiation Board of Directors selects the winners annually from the applicant pool. Last year over 400 students applied for the three scholarships

Grand Rapids Alumni Chapter Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU prior to March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Preference given to incoming freshmen from Kent, Ottawa and Barry counties
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Preference given to students with proven academic ability and varied interests
  • Application deadline is March 15th

Grand Traverse Alumni Chapter Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Preference given to incoming freshmen from Grand Traverse, Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Application deadline is March 15th

Tri-Cities Alumni Chapter Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Preference given to incoming freshmen from Midland, Bay and Saginaw counties
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Application deadline is March 15th

James H. Moon Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Applicant must be a graduate of Fremont High School with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Preference given to students studying teacher education
  • Application deadline is March 15th

Judy Johnson Endowed Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Application must be a graduate of Newaygo High School with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Deadline to apply is March 15th

Moon-Gempel Burton-Bendle High School Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Applicants must be a graduate of Burton-Bendle High School in Burton, Michigan with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Deadline to apply is March 15th

Robert and Susan Clarke Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Preference given to graduates of Harbor Springs High School
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Preference given to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must be interested in pursuing a business or teaching degree
  • Application deadline is March 15th

Christman Company Endowed Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Applicants must have completed three years of high school math
  • Applicants must be interested in pursuing a degree in construction management
  • Deadline to apply is March 15th

Dr. Leslie O. Carlin Scholarship for Freshmen

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU
  • Open to applicants with demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA
  • Next award in 2014-2015

Dick Enberg Endowed Scholarship

  • Open to incoming freshmen who have been admitted to CMU by March 1st
  • Applicants must submit the FAFSA listing CMU as the school of choice
  • Applicants must be from a class C or D high school in Michigan
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need
  • Applicants must be interested in a major within the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions
  • Deadline to apply is March 15th

CMU talent, athletic and departmental scholarships

  • Endowed scholarships are available based on need, academic focus, career aspirations and other criteria
  • Most are awarded by CMU departments to returning students, but a few are available to new students
  • Scholarships given to athletes are determined by the coaching staff of each sport. Interested athletes should fill out the necessary Prospective Student Athlete Questionaire found on the CMU Chippewas Collegiate Athletics webpage
