From a simple inquiry to your first classes, this page will help guide you every step of the way.
Before you apply
Maybe it’s been your plan all along or you’re just now thinking about transferring. Either way, getting an early start can get the ball rolling, even if you’re just testing the waters for opportunities available.
Meet with current school advisor
Scheduling a meeting with an advisor early on can give you a great jump start on the best options available to you. Discuss potential transfer schools, programs of interest, transfer guides and which
transfer agreement applies to you.
CMU offers a number of
transfer student visit days throughout the year. During these visits, you’ll learn how to apply, discover academic advising opportunities, learn how to obtain scholarships and aid, and take a tour of CMU's campus.
Are you thinking, “Which of my courses will transfer?” It’s one of the most common questions asked and a vital one to finding the right school to continue your education. There are several tools to help you determine exactly how the work you’ve already done will carry over to CMU.
CMU Transfer Equivalencies
Use this database of courses that have previously been approved for transferring credits to CMU to explore how courses you’ve taken translate to courses at CMU.
Transfer Simulation Tool
CMU offers an incredible tool that allows you to simulate your own personal transfer scenario.
The Transfer Simulation Tool allows you to select each of the specific courses you’ve taken at your current school and see exactly how those credits transfer to CMU. It will also show you what additional courses and steps you’ll need to take to earn your degree at CMU.
Michigan Transfer Network
Michigan Transfer Network allows you to view transfer equivalencies between many Michigan colleges and universities.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
You can determine your approximate cost of attending CMU with the
Cost Calculator and learn how CMU can help you pay for it with a number of scholarships and financial aid packages available. With the lowest tuition increase over the last six years among all 15 public universities in Michigan, CMU offers affordable degrees. There is also more than $60 million in first-come, first-serve scholarships available to students, including several geared specifically toward transfer students.
Students who are transferring from a community college with at least a 3.30 GPA and 30 credits are eligible for scholarships. Community college transfer students who apply to CMU and meet requirements are automatically considered for up to $5,000 in scholarships.
Apply to CMU
CMU grants admission on a rolling basis, meaning we will admit students for the next available semester of study as applications arrive, so applying at least six months prior to the start of the term you wish to begin at CMU is recommended. If you plan to live on campus, you may want to apply even sooner. More information on the application process can be found on the
undergraduate admissions transfer students web page.
How to apply
You can apply online at
apply.cmich.edu. Have your official transcripts sent directly to CMU from all colleges you have previously attended. An admission decision will be mailed to you within a month.
