CMU’s merit-based Global and Continental Awards are for new international students admitted to the freshman class or who are enrolling for the first time as transfer students.

Presidents’ Award

Approximately $40,000 over four years*

  • Available to non-United States resident high school seniors who will graduate with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, have a 22 or higher ACT composite score (or SAT I of 1,000), a TOEFL score of 550 pbt/ 213 cbt/79 ibt or IELTS score of 6.5.
  • This award is for applicants whose native language is not English and who enroll as on-campus freshmen at CMU.
  • Scholarship funds will be applied directly toward payment of tuition. The scholarship is renewable and is equal to the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition for four years.

The application deadline for scholarships is April 1 for the fall semester and Sept. 1 for the spring semester.

Global Scholar - $12,000 over four years

  • Available to international students admitted to CMU as freshmen or transfer students
  • Scholarship funds will be applied directly toward payment of tuition. The scholarship is renewable. Funding shall not exceed the cost of tuition for any given semester.
  • Applicants must have a B (3.0 GPA) average at the time of application.

Continental Scholar - $8,000 over four years

  • Available to international students admitted to CMU as freshmen or transfer students
  • Scholarship funds will be applied directly toward payment of tuition. The scholarship is renewable. Funding shall not exceed the cost of tuition for any given semester.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average equivalent to B- (2.9 GPA) at the time of application.
